Diamond 2 update

Published Sat 11 Oct 2025

Diamond 2 will now be taken offline for re-surfacing.  The current undulating surface will have light earthworks completed to level out the playing surface and new turf will be laid.  This will require round 1 matches that would be on Diamond 2 to be shifted in the roster to accommodate this work.

Originally remediation was going to involve much larger cut-outs, however, we have successfully negotiated with the council to have much more substantial works completed.  This is neccesary for the safety of our players and the maintenance of our grounds for the future.

The works will involve bringing in a bobcat (or similar) to scrape and level the infield around the cutouts where the levels are now dangerous.  Extra wide commercial grade turf will be laid (1m plus width per roll) to ensure this is stable for almost immediate gameplay.  This will also allow our cutouts to remain at a much more sensible size.

Games that would usually be schedule on round 1 on diamond 2 have now been shifted to alternative fixtures, this impacts some matches from Womens 1/2 Division, Mens Division 2 and Mens Division 4.

We appreciate that this isn't the most ideal circumstances to starting our new softball season, but the safety of our members comes first.  There is still a lot of work to do between now at the Friday night.  We still have that dodgy pitching mat on Diamond 3 and we have to fight the city of the Ants on Diamond 5.

In the mean time, please keep the feedback coming on our grounds - you can find me wandering around most weekends somewhere at Lark Hill Sportsplex or email me on lyle.wells@rcdsa.org.au
